pc creaking - large files on system so was trying tto reduce save to other
disks etc and when that didn' make much difference, began to take a closer
look

these updates are swamping our drives

is there any safe way of knowing which update we can get rid of

in old days 3 gigs, now windows is over 6 gigs - pretty sure it was way
smaller at the start

so took a look at some of the files and found internet explorer 7 was over
200 mb?? loads of updates and i hardly use it - used to be office was heavy
at around 150!!!!
was going to install the whole caboodle and reinstall a fresh version but
cannot find a way of un-installing safely- and all those hidden un-install
files at 45 to 200 mb?????? do we need those

I love xp for the restore etc but surely this is a bit over the top

any ideas on this please - thanks

Folders that have uninstall as part of the name (for example
$NtUninstallKB282010$ which reside in C:\windows (hidden folders) are Window
Hot Fix Update folders/files) can be safely deleted (providing you never wish
to uninstall the updates). I would recommend leaving these folders for a
period of at least a month to make sure the update is working correctly.

These updates can be deleted individually or in multiples. To find out more
about the update/s go to:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/XXXXXX
NB: XXXXXX = the actual number not including the "Q" or "KB"

Once you have deleted the uninstall folders/files, then go to Control Panel,
Add/Remove Programs. Select the matching Windows Hotfix Title relating the
update folder/file you have just deleted and select remove. You will get a
Windows error. This is because you have deleted the uninstall folder/files.
Just choose OK and the entry will be deleted from the Add/Remove Programs
Listing.
