Hi all,

I have a problem with one of my clients running XP Professional with SP2.
When I start Windows Update it opens the browser and
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com is displayed. On the bottom it says
"opening http....". It sits there without being redirected to V5 until it
times out.

Does anybody have an idea what is going on? All other clients are updating
fine.

Thanks,

Claus

Some further test results:

When I manually redirect to
http://v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.co....aspx?ln=en-us I get
error 0x8DDD0004.

I deleted the datastore. Still no go. Any help would be very much
appreciated.

Thanks,
Claus

Cjobes try the following ... it worked for me....

Like most everyone here I have had troubles with the error 0X8DDD0004. A
co-worker and I tried a few trick but nothing worked.

Then we tried the following:

1. Find the update WindowsXP-KB842773-v2-x86-enu.exe

2. Load it first. Doesn't matter if you have SP1 or SP2 installed or
any update
installed. Just install it first.

3. Reboot the PC and sign back in with Admin rights

4. Run up-dates again. Now it took some time to bring up the updates
but they
came up after 4 minutes.

Kind of a backward way to do thing but it works great here. Best of luck to
all. Hope this helps...

Thanks for replying. I tried that and got an error message saying that
"setup has determined that you have a servicepack installed that is newer
than the version you are trying to install. There is no need to install
this."
It then terminates.

Any other idea?

am still dealing with this one, too. I have found a way around it,
but it's not as nice an experience as regular updates.

Turn off automatic update, and tell him only to notify you. Don't download.

After a while the updates are detected and you get a notice. Follow the
instructions and install the notice from the status bar icon.

This method will then download the updates in the background, and except
for some background hard disk nois, you don't know it is happening.

After an updates is downloaded, it notifies you again. follow the
instructions and dot all again. I becomes self explanatory them.

This method bypases some of the neat stuff where downloading again is
avoided id the file is already on your machine. (It's painful downoading
SP 2 again when the file was already there.)

But it does get the process running again. I still can't get the
Internet Explorer driven routine to run.

Carl,

Thanks for the response. In a way I'm glad I'm not the only one with this
problem. MS is useless like always with regard to tech support. I will
follow your instruction and see if I get anything installed. If I find a
solution I'll let you know.
