for the past few days i have been trying to check updates for any that i may
have missed. I am using XP home edition with sp2 on a 4 month old Toshiba
satellite. I know im using Internet explorer 6 but the update page seems to
think otherwise.

When i load the update page i get this in the addressbar>>
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/thanks.asp?

followed by this in the main browser window >>

Thank you for your interest in Windows Update

Windows Update is the online extension of Windows that helps you get the
most out of your computer.

You must be running a Microsoft Windows operating system in order to use
Windows Update.

this problem also seems to extend to symantec online virus scan.

Any suggestions gratefully received..
