update problem with Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 1

Using Windows XP
Have tried to install latest service pack (Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0
Service Pack 1 (KB110806).
Inital installation succesful but after up to 20 minutes of waiting receive
message that installation is unsuccessful.
Have tried rebooting but without success.
Very irritating as the "install udates?" icon pops up every few minutes.
