Update Problem mit KB946648 (Windows XP, SP2)

Beim wiederholten Versuch, das Update KB946648 zu installieren, bekomme ich
immer die lapidare Fehlermeldung "Der erforderliche Installationszweig wurde
nicht in der INF-Datei gefunden".

Was ist die Ursache? Wie kann ich das Problem loesen?
