This is my first Post in a forum so please bear with me.

I have had this same problem with WUA since April following two weeks with
no problems from having a new computer with 'Vista Home Premium' I also
cannot install many of the windows 'Live' Programs or Adobe acrobat and it
seems that these are all related to the same issue in the MS Software - It
started folowing an update around that time from MS. I am not a professional,
but can sort out if I know what to look for!
Like many other people with this error, I have tried all the recommended
fixes with no solution, I cannot also install SP1 as it comes up with WUA
installer encountered unrecoverable error, this despite following various
suggested fix's from this forum! I have only managed to install KB937287
manually as the other security updates start to look & then state 'this
update not for your system' or words to that effect. I hope that someone can
at least answer my query & maybe help.

I have just pasted the section of the log that seems to indicate where the
problem may lie?

Determining whether a new setup handler needs to be downloaded
2008-07-24 12:03:32:834 1420 bbc Setup SelfUpdate handler is not found. It
will be downloaded
2008-07-24 12:03:32:835 1420 bbc Setup Evaluating applicability of setup
package "WUClient-SelfUpdate-ActiveX~31bf3856ad364e35~x86~~7.0.6000.381"
2008-07-24 12:04:02:848 1420 bbc Setup WARNING: Cbs StartSession, error =

"WUClient-SelfUpdate-ActiveX~31bf3856ad364e35~x86~~7.0.6000.381" failed,
error = 0x80080005.

Thanks,

Hi there, don't know if this is a help, I don't know what else you've tried -

CO_E_SERVER_EXEC_FAILURE
Decimal code: -2146959355
Hex code: 0x80080005
Error Type: CoCreateInstance Error
Comments: BITS service could not be started

Bits Repair Tool -
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en
(Vista 32 bit/x86 )
or
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en
(Vista 64 bit/x64 version)

Unfortunately it appears yours issues are more than just WU as you mention can't install
other programs.

For SP1 there is assistance from MS available -

Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (All Languages)
Unlimited installation and compatibility support is available at no charge until March 18,
2009.

Unlimited installation and compatibility support for Vista SP1 is available at
no charge through 18 Mar-09
