Update Problems (2)

I am using Windows Me. I have not had any previous problems with Windows
Update.

I was trying to update through the Windows Update Website. I had disabled my
antivirus AVG for the update.

The latest Windows Update had 5 programs - kb918547, kb917344, kb916281,
kb917734, kb 918439.

When I downloaded all 5 and sought to install one failed viz: kb918547 with
the other 4 showing as successful updates.

When I tried the Windows Update again it still showed kb916281 and kb917734
as critical updates even though they were successfully downloaded and
installed (confirmed on installation history) as well as the failed update -
kb918547.

For kb918547 there was no specific error code; it just said "The following
items failed to install".

For kb916281 and kb917344 there was no error codes as it said that these
updates had been successfully installed.

kb917734 and kb918439 seem to have been successfully downloaded and installed.

I have looked in Windows and there is no file called WindowsUpdate.log.
There is no subfolder in Windows called Software Distribution and hence no
file called ReportingEvents.log. I did the search with all files showing
(including hidden files). Hence I cannot send you any log files.

There is a Windows Update (hidden) folder in C:\Program Files but I could
not find a log file there.

One extra piece of information:
I downloaded
"WindowsME-KB918547-ENU_346d1c5b14e4c033781cc9630fd4a9a" to manually install
kb918547. When I tried it I got the following message:

"INT Install Failure Reason: The directoty or file cannot be created"

I had trouble installing the KB917734 update on my win2k pro machine
until I killed the "WMDM PMSP Service" which on my w2k machine was done
by Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services > find and kill
"WMDM PMSP Service"
