Update process dosn't work in all computer.

Hi, i have next problem, update policy configured by group policy W2k3 to
download updates directly from Microsoft site, all computers WinXP SP2 was
updated by august patches, but now no one computer or server not request
October patches, in System log no record relating Automatic updates.

in registry i'm found next interesting strings

DetectionStartTime - 2005.06.15 19:42:01
DownloadExpirationTime - 2005-10-16 05:59:16
NextDetectionTime - 2005-10-16 08:34:04
ScheduledInstallDate - 2005-10-15 23:00:00

what this is mean? why no events is present in system log?

Any idea, thank you.

Hi,

The data listed above indicates that Automatic Update is active.

Two log files you can look at to see what Automatic Updates is up
to:

%windir%\WindowsUpdate.log
and
%windir%\SoftwareDistribution\ReportingEvents.log

(%windir% is typically C:\Windows or C:\Winnt)

Note that the text goes pretty far out to the right on the latter file,
turn off any line wrapping in your text editor.

Torgeir, how it's download data? it use HTTP port ??? do you know ip range
for windows update sites, i think may be it blocked on our router

You need to look in WindowsUpdate.log (no space in the file name).

From the bottom, search upwards for the word FATAL and if found,
post back the 15 lines before and the 15 lines below it.


The three "Success Content Install Reboot completed." lines in
ReportingEvents.log indicates that three updates where installed
since 2005-10-13.

Open for TCP and UDP on ports 80 (HTTP) and 443 (HTTPS) for the
following sites:

*.download.microsoft.com
*.windowsupdate.com
*.windowsupdate.microsoft.com
windowsupdate.microsoft.com

Hi,

I'm not sure what "Update is not allowed to download due to regulation"
is caused by, but some have posted that it most likely it's a form of
throttling the distribution from the Windows Update web site because
of excessive demand on the servers.


If you still get the same message even in a day or two:

Microsoft offers unlimited free support for Windows Update, I suggest
you use that. At the URL

http://support.microsoft.com/ph/6527

Click on "Need More Help? Contact a Support Professional by Email,
Online, or Phone." in the upper right corner.
