My server's OS at a hosting center was reinstalled with a clean OS and all
the latest patches last Friday including Update Rollup 1 for SP4 Windows
2000 (it's in the Add/Remove Programs list along with the other Hotfixes).
However, last night I was having problems with an online backup service that
uses continuous data protection using some functionality for transmitting
file changes that requires this Rollup.

This morning the Windows Update icon appears in the system tray and when I
look at what needs to be installed it says Update Rollup 1 for SP4.

Could a third-party service screw up something with the update (and the
computer knows something is missing or changed)?

What should I do? Should I go ahead and reinstall the Rollup (even though it
is supposed to be there)? Will the Rollup repair whatever happened to make
the Update icon appear?

This is a production server, and I don't have the luxury of experimenting
during the day.

Do you have permission from the owner of "nospam.com" to use this address?

[WUAU wants to reinstall UR1]

Put a previously not installed Windows file into DLLCache or the Windows
directory when UR1 has an newer version of this file.

Let WU download the files and prompt before installation.
When ready look into the "SoftwareDistribution\Download" folder and check
which files have been downloaded. These have been overwritten, either in
their "working directory" or in the DLLCache.
