Update Rollup 1 for Windows 2000 SP4 Install Problem

I have installed Update Rollup 1 for Windows 2000 SP4 numerous times,
however, everytime I go to the Windows Update web page the scan of my
computer always says I need to install Update Rollup 1 for Windows 2000 SP4.

Does anyone have any idea why Windows Update doesn't recognize that Update
Rollup 1 for Windows 2000 SP4 is installed?

Thanks,
Tom

Be aware of the fact that Windows 2000 Update Rollup 1 was
corrected and recently re-released, perhaps about 2 weeks
ago. If Windows 2000 Update Rollup was installed in early
August, then it has been replaced by a newer version using
the same name.

I downloaded the new version today and installed it. But, I still have the
same problem.

Should I uninstall and reinstall it? I started to uninstall it but a
warning message popped up saying my system might not work if I removed the
rollup.

Hi,

Sometimes, if MDAC and/or MSXML 4 is not up to date, Windows Update/
Automatic Update doesn't see the Rollup 1 as installed:

From: "Dave Hawley" <>
Subject: Re: Windows 2000 SP4 Update Rollup "Sticking"
Date: Fri, 12 Aug 2005 16:21:01 -0700
Newsgroups: microsoft.public.windowsupdate
http://groups.google.co.uk/group/mic...e949fbb18d070a

In the thread in the link above Dave Hawley mentioned that the problem
seemed to be caused by

<quote>
....two components of Windows were out of date.
These were MS Data Access Components 2.8,
which needed to be upgraded to SP1, and MSXML 4.0,
which needed to be upgraded to SP2.
</quote>

He found this from running MBSA 1.2.1

There are specific version checker programs for both components:

I ran into the same problem that Tom did. I followed the instructions in
this thread and have updated my MDAC to the latest version. However, when I
try to check the MSXML version (after registering the XMLVersion.ocx file) I
get an error message saying "Please check to make sure that MSCOMCT2.OCX
exists in a standard path". I've checked in my WINNT directory and
sub-directories and the closest that I can find to this filename is
MSCOMCTL.OCX. Any suggestions ? . . . . .or a copy of MSCOMCT2.OCX would be
great !!

Thanks.

Thanks MowGreen. I'm a step closer. Now I'm getting an error message saying
"Please check to make sure that COMCT332.OCX exists in a standard path".
Any hints on where I could find this file as well? I really appreciate the
assistance.

P.S. I think most of us will never forget . . . . . .

You're welcome. Which version of Visual Basic is installed ?
To be frank, VB is *not* my forte. See if this helps :

Hi again.

I finally got around to checking the link that you posted. It looks like
this file is part of:

Common Controls-3 6.0

Would you have any idea where I could locate that? As for which version of
Visual Basic I am using . . . . . . . I have Access installed which contains
VBA. Would that be it?

Thanks again
