When attempting to install rollup KB900325, it fails every time. Have been in
contact with Microsoft Tech Support, but not resolve as of yet. Have removed
one past update that was to have worked. Still nothing working. I am trying
to get this rollup because it is required to run the new WMP. Any help
appreciated.

Try downloading the update directly, then install:

April 2006 Update Rollup for Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 (KB914548)
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en

This update supersedes all updates since Update Rollup 2 (KB900325) for
Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005.

OK. Tried that. An error message stated that one of the prerequisites failed.

I tried a lot of ways, that many people describe here, to overcome this
problem but unfortunatelly nothing happened.
Please help!!!

So what are the pre-req's for KB914548?

<title>April 2006 Update Rollup for Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005</title>
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=914548

<extract>
Prerequisites
To install this update rollup, you must be running Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005.
You must install the update that is described in the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
900325 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/900325/) Update Rollup 2 for Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005
</extract>

So, do you have 900325 installed?

<title>Update Rollup 2 for Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005</title>
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=900325

FWIW I find the word Rollup in the title of KB914548 contradictory
and confusing. It appears to me that the Rollup (the prereq) is 900325
and 914548 is just a patch of some kind on it.

Are you trying deliberately to install only one update at a time?
Usually patches which have prereq's will be selected and installed
by WU or AU as a package in the correct order.

If you do have 900325 installed already we had better look at
that registry value which is being checked.

SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center\Ident

I will assume that it is supposed to be under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
but since I don't have that product I have no way of knowing if the last term
(Ident) is a subkey or a value. Try looking for either. To be absolutely certain
about what is being checked you could run RegMon (e.g. filtering on
at most the name of the update and highlighting Ident.)
