Hi,
Having problems using MS update on several PC's.
All have been formatted & clean installed with Win 2K
Installed with Win 2K SP4 & I.E. 6.0

Can access update site no problem, but ystem hangs during scann process,
then message - Error encountered, page can not be displayed. At this point
CPU usage is 100%.

Any suggestions thanks

I'm having similar difficulties.

The first time I tried to update, the update web page froze where it says
it's searching for updates.

The second time I got an error message [Error number: 0x8024400A] saying:

"The website has encountered a problem and cannot display the page you are
trying to view."

Looks like an MS SNAFU to me.

I was getting the same error. An earlier post had a fix that works for me. I
just pasted into notepad, did a little cleanup, and saved as a batch file.
Many thanks to TaurArian. Here's the snippet that helped:

As I said, it works for some -

You may need to re-registered some more files:

1. Click Start.
2. Choose Run.
3. In the Run box, type (pressing okay after each one) :-

net stop wuauserv

Repeat for the following:
regsvr32 wuapi.dll
regsvr32 wups.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng1.dll
regsvr32 wucltui.dll
regsvr32 wuweb.dll
regsvr32 MSXML3.dll
regsvr32 qmgr.dll
regsvr32 qmgrprxy.dll
regsvr32 jscript.dll

net start wuauserv

Greg,

Thanks for the detailed instructions. Unfortunately, it did not work for
me. But, I still appreciate your post.

Awesome! This fixed my problem. You should definitely try it if you can get
to the Windows Update page and then nothing happens while the site searches
for your updates.

I haev found that the wuauserv service is causing the problem. I have set
the service to "manual" instead of starting automatically and it has fixed my
problem. Don't know if this helps. It's at a least a temporary fix

I have yet to find anything that works for mine as it also claim that
MSXML3.dll is missiing yet it is listed. It also gives an Error number after
it 0X80070005. I did have it fixed at one time but it seems that every time
I try to update now it gives me the same grief. This problem has been going
on now for about 2 months. Can anyone help with this as it is not just one pc
that its happening to?

0X80070005 refers to a Permissions issue. It appears that 'something' is
preventing either the updating or installation of msxml3.dll.

Specifically, WHAT is claiming that msxml3.dll is missing and how are
you determining that 'it is listed ' ?
