Update shuts down and restarts computer as soon as I click on it

I was download the cummulative patch KB834707 for internet eplorer 6 from
windows update page then when began to install it window xp just shut down on
its own. I tried this several times and it continued to shut down. I then
proceeded to download the patch to my desktop and install it from there. It
also shut down my pc automatically and restarted it just like the windows
update page did. I have had a similiar problem with some other exe. files.
If anyone can help it would be appreciated.

First thing I'd do is update your data files on your antivirus software and
run a full scan. Or use one of the several online scans.
