Update for SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine (SharePoint) on Windows

On Dec 3rd I updated a SBS2003 Server from the Update Site. One of the
updates was Update for SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine (SharePoint) on Windows
Server 2003 (KB909544). It looked fine, but at the end of the install it
said it failed. We can no longer operate the Sharepoint site. The
MSSQL$SHAREPOINT service will not stay started. I am pretty sure this is the
issue, however I cannot find a way to either remove the update...or reinstall
it....

Hi,

Please run the MSDE setup from the SBS CD using following options.

setup INSTANCENAME="SHAREPOINT" BLANKSAPWD=1 /L*v C:\MSDE.LOG

--After setup is complete please attached the user databases and
created logins as they existed before.

Eric,

I have the same problem. But how do you "attach the user databases and
create logins as they existing before" when we never did this in the
first place to install sharepoint and therefore do not know users and
passwords to create, etc.

On April 1st Windows Update automatically updated my sqlserver and failed the
install causing our sharepoint server to stop. I tried using the fix offered
but can't locate the msde files on cd1 - can you offer a few more details
please. Right now we are down thanks to automatic updates!
