Update starting but never ends, stuck at update 6 of 8

Choosed to install new updates when quitting Vista Business a few hours ago,
but the installation process seems to stop at update 6 of 8. I'm waiting and
waiting but nothing happens. Dont wont to turn off the computer, so can
someone give me a tip on how to solve the problem??

I too am getting problems trying to update my Vista Home edition. I have
restarted my laptop a few times to try and clear a possible problem but when
I try just one of several updates that previously did not install, again it
either does not start or does not finish. My laptop is new. i wish it had XP
on it

Are you running Vista or Vista SP1? If Vista SP1, did you install SP1 via
Windows Update or manually?

The update is not installed successfully, you receive a message, and the
computer restarts when you try to install an update in Windows Vista:
