Update trying to install XP SP3 on my Vista laptop??

I continue to recieve messages that important updates need to be installed,
but its XP SP3. What wuold be triggering update to install XP on my Vista
computer?
I also read that the update could be "hidden" - but found no instructions on
how to do this....
