Update V5 simply sits there...

First let me say that my install of SP2 went off without a hitch on two of my
boxes. However, when checking out the new V5 update site I've encountered a
very strange and perplexing problem. It simply displays the "Checking for
the latest version of the Windows Update software..." and that's about as
far as it gets. There are no security warnings given, no javascript or other
errors reported. It just sits there. I've tried all the troubleshooting steps
that deal with non-registered DLLs, services and other necessities to no
avail. The AutomaticUpdates, BITS, and ICS/Firewall services are active and
running. Everything I've read and tried suggests that all should be well but,
nada. Anyone having similar issues or are my boxes flukes of nature?

Hi Sebastian,

Can you tell me the version of the file %windir%\system32\wuweb.dll? Can
you also please check your IE settings to check if "Download signed active-x
controls" is *not* set to "Disable" (Tools->Internet Options->Security)?
Also, can you please confirm that you are *not* seeing the IE "Information
bar" (gold color bar on IE) informing you of blocking the WU active-x
control?

Thanks,

Kalyan
