Hello,

first I have to say that I work with a "genuine" version of Windows XP MCE.
When I last visited the Windows Update Website yesterday, a new version of
the WGA tools was downloaded and installed (without any error message). Since
that time my PC always completely freezes when the WGA tool is invoked, i.e.
I have to use the power switch to reboot the PC. This happens on the Windows
Update Website as well as on the Windows Validation Website for exampel!!!
When I try to start the WGADiag2.exe mentioned in this newsgroup it's the
same.

All the solutions posted in this newsgroups until now did not help!!!

Any help would be highly welcome!!!

Thank you in advance,

Robert

P.S.

For information purposes: On another PC with XP MCE as well I had to disable
the firewall (nForce4) to be able to use the buttons "Express" and "Custom"
on the Windows Update Website after the new WGA tool was installed.

There's a thread lower down called "Subject: Express or Custom for Windows
updates"

You are not alone.

I'm awaiting a call from MS tech any minute now. Will post if there's a
solution.

Hello,

For some reason Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool (KB892130) fails
to install on my computer. Why would this be?

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Look at : A solution to WGA ... etc further down. It contains 2 good
solutions. The easiest seems to be the one posted by Stevefromz: use your
official XP install disk and use the repair option !!

Remember that by using the Repair option that you will wipe out all updates and
they will have to be reinstalled.
