1. To get rid of the yellow shield in the task box that I knew was an empty
file, I just ran it again (empty >NET Framework installation) to get rid of
it.
2. Then immediately started the procedure here
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/910336
It was a completely successful installation that took just a few minutes.

: Windows XP Pro SP2 ver 2002
: New Info. Also I have a question at the bottom.
:
: 1. WGA Notify finally came in on a successful install today - on its own.
: However, it was for Vista. I was not aware I was prepped for Vista. If I
: have all Win XP updates, does that mean my Win XP machine is prepped for
: Vista?
:
: 2. I have finally gotten on the Windows Update site the error code
: 0x80070002, and plan to do the exercises
: (
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/910336 last updated June 30, 2006) which
: will match up the contents of the Data Store folder.
: ,,,,,,,,,,,,,
:
: In the meantime, for what it's worth: The windows update site (where I
: found this code as my problem gave the fix for 0x80070002 was Last updated
:
: 12/16/2005. Earlier today I searched the Article ID for this fix (910336)
: and it was Last Reviewed and revised June 30, 2006, Revision: 2.1
:
: In this newer version, part way through the instructions it does not say
to
: Delete the contents of the DataStore folder, but it says to rename it, and
: tells what happens when you do: the history list is erased from the
"Review
: your Updates" section of the Windows Update Web site.
:
: Then it goes on to instruct in starting up Automatic updates again and
then
: visit the Microsoft Update Web site (or WSUS server) again.
:
: The newer version also adds that if you still cannot install the update,
see
: the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article: 906602 (for other related
: issues.
: .............
:
: My question is this: What do I do with the *current lurking download icon*
: from the status bar? I have read the log, and know it is another failed
: attempt.
