Update of Windows Genuine Advantage Notification tool fails

Hi,

with today's patches (July 14), Windows Update offers an update of the
Windows Genuine Advantage Notification tool, but the download always fails.
What could be wrong?

I have two computers, one of them loaded the KB90574 Windows Genuine
Advantage Notification just fine, the other it keeps on failing. As far as I
know the computers operate the same. What is the deal?

Seems that my systen belongs to the second category as well. Any hints on
how to solve this?

I had a similar (Error Code: 0x80242006 ) failure on the Windows Genuine
Advantage Notification install. Help doesn't.

This laptop has an OEM (Toshiba) provided Windows XP Pro installed on it and
is completely legit. So what's the issue?

BTW, this approach by MS seems to be akin to the gun control approach -
disarm the lawabiding, ignore the lawbreakers!

If you are referring to update 905474, then download and install directly:

S-T-R-A-N-G-E!!! I have been having the same problem for the last several
weeks!!?? You don't suppose that the anti-piracy software considers this to
be an invasion of privacy, and is blocking it, do you???

Anyway, I submitted a report to MSFT, and they are supposed to be working on
it, hopefully.

I've received this same message! I installed the updates, one failed
(....5474), rebooted, retried, refailed, rebooted, retried, refailed.
Oh, am I tired! I need some R&R and not some R&R&R!
Is MS listening? Stock price is down, girls and guys! Solve this and I'll
guarantee the price will go up! :-)

This worked great, now I have no more updates left to install. It still shows
up as failed in my update history though. Thanks for your help, as clicking
on the failed icon didn't bring up a solution like it was supposed to.

Thanks Carey. Have't restarted yet but it seems to have solved the prob. It
had been failing to install for a couple of weeks now.
