UPDATE FROM WINDOWS ME TO XP

I was trying to update my lucent win modem because I have been unable to
upgrade my Windows ME to Windows XP home edition. Everything upgrades o.k
until I try to connect to the internet and can't. I've updated all my
critical updates
for windows ME & that didn't help,
and thought updating the modem might help.I hate to go through updating
again unless I'm sure it will work this time.

Did you check the Lucent web site to see if they had posted drivers?

Lucent referred me to agere.com which has a modem 8.30 for download. Iit
safe to download this?
