I've done the automatic windows update several times and this has not only
failed but crashed my system (blue screen). I've had to use auto recovery
twice. This is on an HP Pavilion dv6. Any suggestions other than to avoid the
update?

I had the same problem today with HP Pavilion HDX x64 with the recommended
update KB 973879. All the other updates of today were installed succesfully
except this one. Has anyone a solution?

Have the same problem yesterday with the last updates.
Removing them solved the problem too

If you have a HP Pavillion dv Series laptop, the problem may have been caused
by Windows Update KB973879. We had dozens of laptops in our university
technical support center tonight with blue screens caused by this update.

We wrote a guide to fixing the problem, I hope this can be of some help:

Tip: Stick with Method #1: Using System Restore to "undo" an update is not a
wise
thing to do!

Thank you, thank you! Our new Dell Studio PC had the same problem yesterday
right after 4 updates auto-installed and I figured it was one of the 4. I
was going to uninstall all of them, but now I'll try just the KB973879 as
discussed. Sheesh!!

We have tried both methods you recommend and both just bring me back to the
same screen to open in safe mode. Any other suggestions?
