Windows update keeps downloading above update but it fails with error
0x80242006. Then tries again next day etc. First time this machine has ever
had windows update problem. Licensed software etc. Any ideas what the cause
is, how to fix it or whether it even matters? Any help appreciated.

[I feel like a broken record.]

(1) Are you running a non-English version of Windows XP and (2) are you
using a Unidrv-based printer and (3) is Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0
installed and (4) are you seeing English text in the print dialog box when
you print something? If you cannot answer Yes to all four (4) conditions,
you don't need to install 934238.

Many thanks PA Bear. I'm unfamiliar with discussion groups so didn't know
where to find the info. Also disappointed that the software keeps trying to
install and that I have to manually mark it and remember that it is critical
yet not important!! Still, the world is not perfect. Anyway, it does appear
that installing .NET triggered the update prompt.

Thanks for your help.

YW & thanks for your feedback. Only some geek working in a dark office in
Red West (or worse) on the MS campus can tell us why 934238 is being offered
to unqualifying machines.
