"Inger",
I am sorry you are hitting this problem. Definitely do not give up on
installing SP4 for Windows 2000. Do you have the SP4 on CD?
The easiest alternate method for installing is to reboot the machine and
install it from safe mode. Here's how:
1. Click Start
2. Click Shut Down
3. Select Restart, and click OK
4. Watch the machine power off (this is just for a moment)
5. As the machine starts powering up, press the <F8> key repeatedly every
few seconds so that you get a menu.
6. In this OS menu, choose Safe Mode
7. Come up in the Safe Mode, and attempt to install SP4.
Reply back to this workgroup and let us know how this goes.
Sincerely,
Pat Walters [MSFT]
