Update wont stop

I have an XP Home edition pc connected to ADSL. The windows update just keeps
starting automatic updates, even though i have disabled all auto updates.
When it begins there is no stopping the download no matter what. This holds
up the internet access and slows the PC down. I prefer manually downloading.
Any ideas how to stop it in it's tracks and then use manual method?

Open Controll panel, if you ahve downloaded Sp2 at the right bottom you will
see Security, open and then uncheck the automatic Updates.
