updated CD for windows

I may have to erase my hard drive to fix a problem. Can I get an up to date
CD to reload, or do I have to use my original XP CD?

You need to use your original CD.
If your original CD is retail, you can slipstream SP-2 eliminating the need
for many downloads:

This process will also work with some but not all OEM CDs depending on the
computer manufacturer.
