Updated failed to install successfully

I tried to install critical security updates. The updated appeared to
download successfully but they won't instal. I get the following Installation
summary:

i have also come across the same problem i think
whilst checking on msn my computer says i need 9 critical updates but just
refuses to download these

- Dell Latitude X200 Notebook

After trying to install updates - following message advises of failure:

I have the same problem but mine includes the entire XP SP2 as well. I even
ordered the CD and tried installing from that but again it loads all the
stuff but fails to install. I've tried contactin Microsoft but haven't
received a reply.

I have encountered the same problem with the download and installation of
critical and security updates.

The numbers are growing as I have had the same problems

I have Windows XP Home Service Pack 2 which has been automatically updating
successfully until this time. There is 8.78 GB free space on a 20 GB primary
drive and 70 GB free on the secondary drive which is used for data storage.
After trying to update the latest security patches several times I keep
getting the same error message

Add me to the list for a minute there I thought I was the only one having
this problem looks like I'm not the only one but so far no help? It's very
annoying I've never had a problem with updates until now I get the same 9
updates to install and I'm able start the install process but my machine just
hangs at "initializing installation..." and nothing ever installs I have even
let it run all night. I have tried serveral times already but to no avail.

And me as well (+KB885835). 1 of my 2KP systems out of 6 work stations and 1
server along with 2 XPPro would not update. I even tried a manual update and
got the error that OS2.exe was running and prevented the update. So I
searched all background programs and services, could not find it. Then I
turned everything Off (bp & svc's) same. I give up! Maybe they will
reinstate the service packs which will include the cure.
