Updated Messenger not working With Web cam

I installed Microsoft LifeCam VX-3000 last summer and it worked beautifully
until I upgraded Windows messenger in January. Now I can't do a video call or
a voice call. It comes up with one of several messages.

It says "Messenger is not available right now. Please try again later.
(0x8ac70202)" When I try to answer a call.

It says "We couldn't start your camera device. Please check that your camera
is not currently in use by another program, and then try again." When I try
to make a call.

It says "Your computer does not have a sound card, or a sound card is not
selected." at other times.
I know I have sound because everything else I do has the sound working. When
I go to adjust audio and video setting it tells me "we are unable to run
audio and video setup"

How do I solve this problem? I have uninstalled and re installed the webcam
software.
Please help. I have parents who want to see their grandbabies.

Greetings,

Do you have McAfee SiteAdvisor installed by any chance? If so, this is a known issue.

See the following article for a workaround:

I'm sorry, I don't know what McAfee SiteAdviser is. I don't think I have it
because nothing comes up under programs for McAfee. Any other ideas? My
webcam works with gmail chat but I prefer Windows messenger.

Same here and for everyone i know with a webcam using WLM 2009
Sometimes i can't see my camera when i'm sending, other times i can'
send sound. I don't have mcafee, and I use Vista premium. The only fix
have found is to unistall WL and my camera, then reinstall both. I
seems to screw up every time there is a windows update. Not sure o
that, but i can't seem to keep my camera running in this program fo
more then a day or two , and then have to reinstall everything again.
tried to reload an older version of WLM and was forced to do a manditor
upgrade. If your going to force us to upgrade then maybe you'd bette
fix it. This is a windows live 2009 quirk that you need to get fixed
Skype works fine always
