I have been trying to install the recent updates for office 2007 and excel
2007 and I keep getting an error message 80070652. Has this happened to
anyone and can you offer me a solution. Thank you so much!

<cmd_output OS="XPsp2">
E:\>set /a c =0x652
1618
E:\>net helpmsg %c%

Another installation is already in progress. Complete that installation before proceeding with this install.
</cmd_output>

Thank you for your response. I thought that may have been what is going on,
but I cant see anything else installing. I will just leave on my computer for
a while and let whatever is installing in the background install. Thank you!

I had this problem for weeks, the background install never finished. From
Windows Task Manager, show processes from all users, a copy of msiexec.exe
appeared but never seemed to use any resources. I killed that process,
didn't notice any messages, then tried to install the update again and it
worked.

Any idea why that mystery copy of msiexec.exe was running? It comes back
every time after I reboot.

Running Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 64 bit.

What did you do to make that conclusion?
Why not try to find out what it has done?
E.g. find any files it has written to.
Looks like something is blocking it from finishing?

Instead of killing that one, perhaps you should bave tried killing
other things which were running which might have been causing a conflict with it?
What *else* was running with it?

If you kill it it doesn't have too much chance to tell you not to do that... ; }

I haven't used Vista. Does it still have msconfig or the option to hold down
a Shift- key to prevent Startup programs from running?

OTOH if the update is running just because it's AU deciding that you still
really don't have that update installed properly yet that would keep happening
as long as you have AU enabled for downloading and installing automatically.
To prevent that try changing your AU settings at least temporarily to prompt
you before installing. E.g. download automatically but don't install before
you tell it to.

My next suggestion, if all that didn't help, was going to be to try using ProcMon's
Boot Logging feature but I don't know if ProcMon has a version which is both
Vista and 64 bit compatible. ; }

Perhaps we should be cross-posting to an OS NG too... <eg>

Good luck
