Last night Windows updated the SP2 and rebooted. It came up "cannot find
Sytem file"{ c:\windows\system32\config\system }. Of course I went to
another computer and looked up what this does and how to fix it. lI swapped
the 5 files around to "repair" the following files, but then came to where my
drive is NTFS? I guess is different than FAT32...I did get into the computer
again ...and went to { Suytem volume information } folder that holds the
"restore" points from every day or there abouts. I have updated a few things
lately and it has had restore points for almost every day. After I finished
it only had 2 restore points -- 7/23 and 8/24? Whate happened to the
others. The files I restored from are the {_registry_machine_security,
software, system, sam and .user defined files into the config folder
replaceing the other files.}
1. I should have many dates to choose from in the folder to restore from in
the DAT folders......only the 2 above.
2. I restored to 7/23...and no it didn't really work. I installed the XP
Home again from the disk after reboot. Problems are to many to list.
3. Should I just wipe out the 60 megs of stuff I have and redo it
totally...or Put in another Hard drive and run from it? Therefore try to
utilize anything left off this drive?
4. I have RAID on the MB and 2 (60meg) IBM HD to install for that. BUt I
had problems with IBM HD's before and the sent me 2 more as replacements.
That when I put in the 80 gig w/o RAID utilized.
5. Windows Update is not working with or without the popup blocker enabled
or disabled. It never shows the Express install.
6. If I look into the Control Panel it shows the SP2 items there, but not
functional...firewall, security center, wireless network.
7. Only shows Windows XP at General /System without SP1 as before.
Lost in space it loooks like.....
