On the WU Website, select your history of updates - now click on failed
update (red mark) and see if there is an error code.
If there is an error code, write it down and post back or in the
alternative, do a search for the error code.

They do not show up in the review your history tab but when i try to install
them it tells me they fail whether I try one or all 51 I need to install.

None of these articles seem to apply to my situation, I run windows update
download the 51 updates nessicary and it tells me they fail, but no record is
kept on the history. If I use Firefox to download them from the Windows
download center they will install and then show up in the history, what is
wrong with my windows xp, I have reinstalled IE 7 and tried to use IE6.1 as
well.
