updates are "0 KB" and installation fails

When I run Windows Update there are 13 things listed, but they are all 0 KB,
and when it runs through the initialization/install it fails.
I'm running Win XP Pro Sp2

any suggestions?

Sounds like your installation has become corrupted.
If you fail to find a solution you will be best reinstalling XP.

Try the "Dial-a-fix" utility (Google for it)
