Updates on 18 Nov incompatible with Win Live Messenger 8.0.0812.00

I realised once these updates are installed:

MSXML 4.0 SP2 Security Update (KB927978)
Security update for Windows XP (KB920213) (KB923980) (KB924270)
Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool - November 2006 (KB890830)

I have problems with using Windows Live Messenger.

When I start Windows Live Messenger, instead of showing my normal display
picture with my e-mail address there (so I can just type my password and
login), I see a 'generic' display picture with no e-mail address. Windows
Live Messenger lags tremendously. When I type my e-mail and password (subject
to huge lagging), Live Messenger will just display an error message "Service
temporarily unavailable. Please try again later."

Looked into Connections in the Options, there is an error between the modem
and the internet. Repaired it, the error is gone, but still unable to
connect, with same message.

Upon system restore to a state prior to Windows Update, everything fine.

Once update reapplied, everything reappears, with exact reproducibility.
System Restore returns to state where everything is fine.

Any ideas of what is happening? If it's a real error, can anyone bring this
up with Microsoft?

Some details I forgot to add:

The problem only occurs after a Restart has been done after the Windows
Update.

Prior to the restart (but post-update), everything still works fine -
including Windows Live Messenger, able to chat with friends.

Once restart, the problem occurs. Please note that there is no problem
whatsoever with my internet connection, browsing on IE 7 has no problems at
all.

Programs loaded at startup includes Trend Micro PC Cilin Internet Security
2006, Windows Defender.

Using Windows XP Professional SP2 (all updates fully applied). Runs Intel
Centrino with 512 MB RAM.

Many thanks.

Did you check your update history to asertain whether these updates were
actually successfull?
I received a success on 2 of these, but history showed they were actually
unsuccessfull.
The problem one, was the MSMXL update.

I am pretty sure the updates are successful. Actually clicked on the update
icon at the system tray, and observed them while they were installing.

After installing KB924270, KB923980, KB920213, KB927978 and KB922760, Messenger and Outlook (when checking Hotmail messages) stopped working.

Restoring the system to the day before fixes the problem... until these patches are applied again.

Any suggestion?
