"The updates are being downloaded...." window appears, then stalls

Attempting to load more critical updates. Scan works ok, and I'm presented
with the relevant updates. When I click the 'install' button I get a window
saying "The updates are being downloaded and installed". From this point on
nothing happens. Each of the four updates I require eventually say 'failed'.
PC is on a corporate network, but downloads have worked before. PC is
running XP Pro with SP2. Automatic updates are on, but recent updates
haven't been working.

Skimming through windows update.log, persistent error appears to be :

"Error 8024402c occurred while downloading update; notifying dependent calls"

Can't find any info on this particular error. Any ideas?

Think I may have solved this.....

Same problem. I ran proxycfg -P "proxy server" and that fixed the problem.
After you install the new xp windows update it doesn't pick up your current
proxy settings. This command forces it

Working ok now.... :-)
