Hi. I have Windows set to notify me before downloading and installing. I
accidentally stopped downloading of this recent load of updates. I
immediately went back and chose to install them. My history says that some
installed but some were canceled. The error code for each one is 8024000B,
but there is no informaiton on this. If I scan again it says Windows is up to
date. If I try downloading them manually it says they've already been
applied. I seem to be stuck - is there anything I can do? The problem updates
are KBs 954478, 953404, 938464, 954154, 956077, 905866, 954366, 890830,
955302. Thanks in advance for any tips.

Are you running Vista or Vista SP1 currently? <=just a question, not a
recommendation!

Please confirm: If you run Windows Update manually, no updates are offered.

>>> ...If I scan again it says Windows is up to date.

Then I wouldn't worry about any "failed updates" showing in Update History
section of Windows Update webpage.

I just experienced the same of a fresh install of Vista before appllying Sp1.

I accidentally cancelled the down load of a number of updates. They now
appear in the log as "canceled" but "installed" - which they are actually
not. So Windows update does not present these anymore. Which is a problem
because it was a lot of drivers I actually need.

You have 2 options. Presented in order of desirability:

1) Check the hardware manufacturers' web sites for their drivers

2) Allow automatic updates to install them. To do so at this point in
time will require that you temporarily stop the Windows Update service
in the Services console or via an Elevated Command Prompt [ sometimes
this requires that the BITS service be temporarily stopped, too ] and
then rename or delete the contents of WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution
[ just the contents; *not* the subfolders of that directory ] OR,
rename/delete DataStore.edb located in the SoftwareDistribution's
DataStore subfolder after stopping the aforementioned services.
