Hi,

I have Windows XP installed on my development machine. Office 2007,
VisualStudio 2008 and some other development stuff is installed, but
beside these tools it's a rather "fresh" system. If I execute Windows
Update, it finds some updates and downloads them, but at the end I get
the message: "The following updates could not be installed: ... all
updates ..."

None of the infos I found via Google was of any help. Because I do not
get a more defailed error message I have no idea on how to debug the
problem. Any hint? Even a hint how ot get an error message would
already be very appreciated!

Achim

Ignore the title and do Method 1 first:

Updates are not installed successfully from Windows Update, from
Microsoft Update, or by using Automatic Updates after you repair a
Windows XP installation
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943144

Registering wups2.dll from a Command Prompt should resolve the
installation failures.
If no joy, reinstall the WUA, from a Command Prompt, by following the
instructions here:

Updates are not installed successfully from Windows Update, from Microsoft
Update, or by using Automatic Updates after you repair a Windows XP
installation:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943144

NB: Also applies to clean installs, upgrade installs, and Recovery installs.
