Updates causing PC freeze...

Hello.

PC system info:

- Windows ME
- 56K Dialup

I've downloaded/installed twice the recommended Microsoft updates. Both
times the computer would freeze up as it was
opening up windows and the programs that are in the start/task bar. I
couldn't close anythiing and had to manually restart the
PC numerous times - always the same result.

Both times the PC had to be restored to an earlier date to remedy the
situation. Having restored to a date prior to the
updates, I'm not sure the PC is currently "updated".

Any idea what could be causing the freeze up?

Following is the list of recommended updates that were downloaded/installed
on (8.07.2005 & 8.12.2005):

I'm having the same exact problem. My system worked flawlessly until these
updates on August 12th. I demand a fix. This is rediculous. I can't even back
up information before the system freezes up.

Hi Don.

Thanks for reply to my question. I had to reboot in Safe Mode to get to the
Restore System, otherwise I couldn't even get to this forum to ask this
question. Hopefully, someone can help us both out here.

Lisa

FWIW, my PC is borked after most recent "updates" -- freezes when I let it
go inactive, even after turning off screensaver. Happens somewhat randomly.

I don't want to reinstall windows -- I just dont' have time. Any way to just
"undo"
the updates?

Well, I feel better in knowing this isn't just happening to me, but it
doesn't make me feel good that it's happening...and I CAN'T STOP IT. Been
reading about it all over this forum and others related. You can always
delete the updates in Add/Remove, but I also read a couple of posts where not
only did that not solve the problem but one person had trouble getting back
on the Web. Scary.
