Updates don't install after download using, semi-Automatic Updates

I have Auto Update set to notify but not download & install. I
checkmark the updates I want to download and they seem to download; but
I don't get message that updates are ready to be installed and can't
finish the installation. Used to work fine until after the Tuesday
update of April. The first sign of trouble was the Genuine Advantage
update (at the end of April) didn't install. The Tuesday updates of May
also didn't install.

Any suggestions?

TIA

You mention failed updates. What IS your error code ?

Go back to Windows Update, but then select View update history. (When you first get to website for Microsoft Update-Windows Update, look at left-hand column, under Options. Press "Review your update history".)
If this is on V6 of Windows Update, you should be able to click on that error note (the red X), and see some info.

Post that error code as well, in your reply.

The downloads from Automatic updates may have been re-scheduled for a later time & date.

I thought I cancelled the two posts. Oh well, thanks for the reply.
The updates finally installed when I **shut off the computer**. That
was a change I wasn't aware of, I was expecting the balloon in the
lower right to notify me the updates were ready to install. I guess
people who dont shut off their machines might wonder what's going on.
That, and maybe some of the updates depended on others; when I got all
the non-hardware related updates, everything installed fine (though I
don't see them in the Add/Remove Programs list).

Thanks again
