updates download but wont install

i have been trying all day to install updates that have downloaded to my
computer. i formatted it last night but it has put me on to explorer 6 when i
tried to upgrade to 7 explorer just shuts down so i have had to restore to
take it back to 6. (not happy) but now it ries to install updates and fails
every time. please please help!

Updates are not installed successfully from Windows Update, from Microsoft
Update, or by using Automatic Updates after you perform a new Windows XP
installation or you repair a Windows XP installation

Always state your full Windows version (e.g., WinXP SP3; Vista SP1) when
