I have Windows XP w/ SP2 and have configured the automatic updates. All has
run well in the past regardless of the updates. Yet on 5/9/07 the 5 auto
updates (see list) downloaded just fine and then attempted to run the
installation. Each of the applications failed. I have attempted run my
computer thereafter, only to have it run so slow, and sluggish that system
became unbearable to use. On a couple of occassions I had to hard boot the
entire due to the system going in NOT RESPONDING. I have attempted the
download (all by auto feature 4X's, with the same outcome each occasion).
I even attempted to disable the XP Firewall, and any of the spyware, or AV
apps running. The install failed as described
List of failed items are:
PowerPoint 2003(KB933669)
Excel 2003 (KB93366)
Word 2003 (KB934181)
Office 2003 (KB934180)
Outlook 2003 (KB934708)
Thanks for any and all quality helps on this issue

Make sure, the Office Source Engine service is up and running
(Start -> Run -> services.msc)

This was checked, by I noted that your comment was not the issue. The
services were runnning. As I stated, the downloads have come via the
automatic update service (which is functional) and the have come four times.
Thus the services are running. The issue is that once they are downloaded,
and as the aforementioned file updates attempt to install....they fail, and
the program reports back that they fail.

Other suggestions???

Well, the Office Source Engine aka OSE service is another
service, not really relying on the Automatic Update or BITS
service. If you've checked that the OSE service is up and
*running*, ...

Bye,

Please try this:

In any Office application, pull down the Help menu, select "Detect and
Repair", and follow instructions.

Then try installing the updates again. Please report back here whether it
worked.

Robin. In the middle of attempting this, a message was returned that the
system could not run. And it close out. I have to admit I did not pay close
attention other than they fact that the Detect & Repair started fine, and
then hung, and then came back wth the message that it failed. I tried to to a
Repair from my Office 2003 Professional Disk and it basically did the same
thing. There is something odd going on. Far too many others are experience
they same sort of symptoms.
