Updates fail to install on shutdown

Hi,

On shutdown I get an option 'click here to shutdown without installing
updates'. At the moment I choose this because when I do a standard shut down
it tries to install and gives the message 'computer will automatically shut
down after installing updates'. But it does not succeed in this installation.
How can I delete these presumably corrupted updates so I can start fresh?

Thanks

Windows Version, please ?
Go to Start > Run > type in or copy and paste the below into the Open: line

%windir%\windowsupdate.log

Click OK or press Enter
The WindowsUpdate.log will now be open.
Copy and paste the last 50 or lines of the WU.log into your reply, please.

IF this is XP and a Repair operation or the application of XP SP3 has
been performed recently, then see this KB:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943144

Do Method 1.
