Updates fail with no error code (80 of them)

I installed software from a corrupted disk and had to repair WinXPProSP2 by
doing an "update" on itself. When automatic update starts up, it downloaded
80 updates, when it initializes on install, it fails every one of them in a
single second with no error code. Here is the list from "windows update"
site.

I have renamed the C:\Windows\System32\Catroot2 folder to "Catroot2OLD" with
no effect (after restart). I have updated the updater with no change. Help!

Updates are not installed successfully from Windows Update,
from Microsoft Update, or by using Automatic Updates after
you repair a Windows XP installation

Can't figure that out?

Get Dial-a-Fix:
http://wiki.djlizard.net/Dial-a-fix

Use its options to fix:
- Windows Installer
- Windows Update
- All the Registration Center options.

Turn off the "Empty System32\Catroot 2"
Do NOT do "Flush SoftwareDistribution".

Then click "GO" and wait until it is done... Reboot will be needed.

- Download/Install Windows Update v3.

http://download.windowsupdate.com/Wi...gent30-x86.exe
(You *may* need to install it using the command line switch "/wuforce"
right after the reboot - immediately after logging in.)

- Download/Install the 927891 patch.
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...9-404327772E5A

- Reboot.

- Visit http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ and scan for/install updates.

- Come back and let us know how things went!

Hi. I came across this discussion while searching for a solution to my
problem and thought your advice was good. However my issue is slightly
different and before I try any fixes mentioned I'd like your advice. I have
rolled back my new Toshiba computer from Vista to XP Professional using the
disk provided. Some updates installed OK including XP Service Pack 3 but
there are still 12 which failed with no error message.

I am not an advanced user and a bit scared of doing something wrong buy
going into the Registry but if that's what's needed I'll give it a go. Can
you help?
