Updates fail when I try to install them...

Please HELP!

I just reformatted my Notebook, and immediately went onto the Windows Update
website to download any critical updates I need. Everything goes acoording to
plan until I try to install them, at which point the windows installer thing
pops up, runs through all downloads and then tells me that none of them were
successfully installed. I can't find anything regarding this in the Windows
Update help files and FAQs. Can anyone help me please??!
