updates failed (KB 917149, 916518, 917334)

These updates have been failing to install on my machine for quite some time.
I've looked at a number of suggestions posted in this group, but they did not
seem to apply to my machine. For example, I can't even find Windows Live
Safety Center, following the steps as indicated in the posts. I really do not
want to uninstall and reinstall Office 2003, unless it is the only way to get
these updates to install.

Any suggestions and pointers are greatly appreciated.
