Updates failing to initialise

Automatic updates have sucessfully downloaded 5 updates; KB914455, KB917151,
KB917159, KB917537 & KB905474. However when it comes to installation the
updates will not get past the "initialising updates" phase. I use Norton
Internet Security and have tried to install the updates with this disabled
but the problem remains. Any advice appreciated.
