Updates failing on Win2000 SP4

Problem: A problem on your computer is preventing updates from being
downloaded or installed
Solution: To fix the problem, try installing the updates again. If that
doesn't work, use the Troubleshooter to try solve the problem.

Microsoft Windows 2000
816093: Security Update Microsoft Virtual Machine (Microsoft VM)
Update Rollup 1 for Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 (KB891861)
Security Update for Windows 2000 (KB924191)


Hi there
Please note 891861 and 924191 are are listed in "currently installed
programs"
I manually donwloaded the VM "Q816093_W2K_SP4_X86_EN.exe" but I "can only
install this on Service Pack 3" because the "Service Pack version of the
system installed is newer than the update you are applying to it."
There is something weird going on with these updates as they cycle around as
installed/notinstalled causing a lot of unecessary activity on the machine.

Hi Robert
Looking at http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=910341 noting I do not have
Client for Microsoft Networks installed for my Broadband LAN, only TCP/IP.
Neither is the Background Intelligent Transfer Service running.

Also, after today's background activities and a rebootI only have:

Noting that googling the KBs there seems to be problems with these updates
anyway.
I have been unable to find a workaround for these.

Not running or can't run? XP Support Tools has bitsadmin which could be
used to test that. I don't know if the same tool is available for your OS or not.
Command (in a cmd window) would be:

bitsadmin /util /version /verbose


If you can't use BITS I don't think you can use WUv6. Instead you could use
WU (or MU) to be notified of updates and then use the WU catalog to download
them from and install them manually.
