Having downloaded the latest updats, I now find that all of my MSOffice 2003
applications are corrupted. I spent most of the early afternoon on the phone
with their tech support, and they were apparently unaware of the extent of
the problem at that time. It started with not being able to insert photos in
either Powerpoint or MS Word. Then I discovered I couldn't attatch anything
to my Outlook email. I am currently talking again to someone at Microsoft
support.

I have Office XP and what I've found is that with the latest updates
installed I can't open any directory or folders containing files from either
Word or Excel. I can open them by directly accessing the file I want from My
Documents then clicking on the file.. that will open the correct program. I
can't however open the software and then the file. I uninstalled the totally
mucked up updates by doing a system restore. Amazing... just amazing.

Do you have a HP Scanner connected to your machine and installed
the HP Scanner software?

Having all these same problems today after software updates on two machines.
Both of these machines have HP scanner with share to web software. Remove
KB908531 fixes the problem or removing scanner is other alternative. Talked
to another consultant who has fixed three other machines. Microsoft strikes
again.

Not really, since uninstalling KB908531 reopens the security hole,
KB908531 is intended to close.

Problems in Windows Explorer or the Windows shell after you install
security update MS06-015
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918165/en-us
Microsoft Security Bulletin MS06-015

Vulnerability in Windows Explorer Could Allow Remote Code Execution
(908531)

For those who have Hewlett Packard's Share to Web Software, there
are two registry patches to choose from (run either one or the
other) not both:

I've made a "patch" back on Saturday available at:
http://patch-info.de/WinXP/Downloads...are-To-Web.zip
(Note this is a Zip file and will need to be extracted. It contains
a REG file which needs to be imported into the registry via double
clicking the contained REG file. You may have to reboot Windows
afterwards.)

or

Kelly has made a patch with exact same functionality available at:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
Line #383 - this is a vbs file and instructions on how to use such
files are at the top of the page.

If you're using a Nvidia video card, you may want to update the driver
for that card: http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp

In case you're running a Kerio firewall software, please reread
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918165/en-us cloesly.

Again what about the people who have an OEM card from
dell? I went on the dell web site and the update I performed
did not solve the problem.

Call the Dell support? <duck>

I have had a Dell Nvidia OEM video card back in another machine.
I just didn't care and installed the Nvidia drivers (similar
chipset family). Guess what? They simply worked.

In case there aren't any updates or you won't update anyway, have
a look into msconfig (not available in Windows 2000) and check
the "Systemstart" tab, if you find anything related to the Nvidia
driver. Disabling that task from startup may help.

Bye,
Freudi

After completing several past XP updates and Office updates my MSOffice2003
will not work correctly. I think I now have Excell running after using
automatic troubleshooting , but Word will not navigate to files. I spent this
morning reading, running troubleshooting, nothing works. The HELP screens in
Word send me to files that do not exist on this computer. I can open Word
files by navigating to the server via MyComputer. I do not know if there are
other suprises in store. I am afraid to use any of my other Office 2003
products until I know what is going on.

After carefully rereading earlier posts I decided to remove HP Precision Scan
software from my PC and also other HP software (that I never use that came
with typical install). Word is working again. I don't have the scanner on
this PC anymore so it is not an issue to remove it. So far that seems to be
the fix for me. Thanks.
