I have two updates that have downloaded but won't install. They are KB950625
(Security update for Microsoft Word Viewer 2003) and KB947355 (Security
update for Microsoft Office 2003). I don't actually have Office 2003 so I
guess that's the reason they won't install, but, how can I delete these so it
stops asking me to install them every time I boot up and then flashing up the
reminder box every few minutes as it's really starting to p..... er put me
off now! Any help gratefull received.

Thanks in advance

Is the installation file, from which Word Viewer 2003 was installed,
still present ?
If it is not, neither update will install.
BTW, the second update is related to the installation of Word Viewer
2003. The name of the update is misleading.

I'm not sure where to look for the installation file to be honest with you. I
have tried the other solution for problems after a repair of an XP
installation (even though I haven't repaired my set up and that didn't work
either. It has downloaded them fine, just won't install them and I'm sick of
the reminders popping up all the time as I don't even have office 2003.
Grateful for any further help!!

Let's confirm that the missing installation file is causing the issue
before we go on and remove Office Viewer ... *right* click My Computer,
either on the Desktop or on the Start Menu, and choose Manage.
In the left frame click the plus sign next to System Tools,
click the plus sign next to Event Viewer.
Click on Application
In the right frame, under 'Type', look for Warnings or Errors.
The 'Source' for Office installations is MsiInstaller.

Check the varied Warnings and/or Errors and you'll see that the latest
ones should relate to the failed attempts to install KB950625 and
KB947355. [NOTE: there will be quite a few 'phantom' errors, specifically -
" Failed to connect to server. Error: 0x800401F0 "
IGNORE those, please]

IF the entries for both updates contain a reference to Error code 1603,
then it is most likely that the installation files were deleted from
your system.
You will have to uninstall the security updates for Word Viewer 2003 in
the reverse order of when they were installed ... IOW, remove the most
recent Security update, then the next most recent, until you've removed
them all. Then uninstall Word Viewer 2003. Redownload it from here and
*save* it:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/i...splayLang%3den

Move the downloaded installation file, wdviewer.exe, to the My
Documents folder or wherever you'd prefer to store it. Without it,
subsequent security updates will fail to install.
Now install the Word Viewer.
Next, using Internet Explorer, go here:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/do...incatalog.aspx

Do the 'Genuine dance' and then have the Office Update page check for
needed Security updates, which will show as Required updates. Suggest
you install them from there or, if you prefer, you can click the More
Details links and download the detected updates manually and install
them at your pleasure.
