I have recenetly downloaded Windows Updates KB938979 and KB932596, and after
I did, my keyboard and mouse stopped working. As a computer technician, I
went about trying to troubleshoot the the problem, and after uninstalling,
reinstalling, using other computers and so forth to narrow down the problem I
have come to the conclusion that the updates have caused my problem. I did
some research into what these updates improve and I noticed that they lock
down the kernal, so much that even some drivers won't load, at least not the
non-digitally signed ones. However, though this is a great safety measure, my
problem is, to say the least--uncalled for: my Microsoft Wireless Desktop
Elite Keyboard and Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer 2.0 Mouse will not
load--though they are Microsoft products. I noticed that the newest release
(6.1) of drivers for this peripherial bundle pack has an unsigned driver for
what looks like the 64-bit portion of the system directory. Now the only way
that I can use my mouse and keyboard is if I go to the advanced startup menu
and disable driver signature enforcement. This is quite the annoyance if
forgotten, having to do a hard shutdown to restart my computer because the
product that Microsoft endorsed does not work with its updates. As you can
tell I am very upset about this.

In any case my question is, can this problem be addressed in a hotfix, or is
there a permanent solution to having the driver signature enforcement
completely turned off unless I say otherwise? Because at this rate, I have
wasted $400 for a beta product...

Also, I noticed that with KB932596 installed, disabling driver signature
enforcement was still not enough, and I caught h*ll removing it without a
working mouse or keyboard. Any immediate assistance with this would be
greatly appreciated.

KB938979 implies Vista.

KB932596 implies 64-bit.

Therefore OP is posting only about Vista 64-bit.

Bobby,

KB932596 will not allow a modified TCPIP.sys file to load. So if you
are running a patched system, you will have no internet until you
remove the patch. The service won't start.
It also will not allow you to disable driver signature enforcement.
You can type the command but it does no good, driver signature
enforcement still takes place unless you disable it with every reboot
of your system
..
Using a x64 Vista on an high performance system means I need system
monitoring tools that don't always use signed drivers. Some of the
authors have told me they will never use signed drivers.

The only way I have found to avoid all of these problems has been to
install all updates except KB932596 and KB938979. Now everything
works fine.
