Updates not completed

Everytime I try to install my updates (I have Windows XP Home) which I have
not done for awhile, it gets to update #48 out of 55 and does not finish. It
runs fine up until that point and when it hits #48 it says it's installing
it, but never moves beyond that point. The computer doesn't freeze, and the
cursor is blinking and I can read that all the other updates are "done!", but
it won't move past #48 and finish. I have left it running for over 24 hours
and it just never finishes. Any thoughts?!!!

Updates are not installed successfully from Windows Update, from Microsoft
Update, or by using Automatic Updates after you repair a Windows XP
